We ask which language you spoke at home growing up so we can tailor explanations to your language background, and — in anonymized, aggregated form — to study how speakers of different languages learn English articles. You can leave this blank or change it at any time in your account settings; it does not affect your use of the app.
If you have not answered, we make a provisional guess from the language your browser asks websites for, purely so explanations have somewhere to start. It is recorded as a guess, not as your answer, and anything you tell us in your account settings replaces it.
We record how long you take to answer each question. This is used to schedule your reviews and, in anonymized aggregate, to understand how article knowledge develops. It is never linked to your identity in any published result.
Questions about your data can be raised through the account owner.
